Louise Arthur League Carmarthen
A big ‘thank you’ to all who travelled to Carmarthen on Saturday by road AND rail! Thankfully the weather was on our side on the day with some great performances by all age groups with PB being the order of the day for our athletes. Another encouraging feature were our new members who for the first time, competed in this league and all showing great promise and determination. Well done to Benji Edwards running his first 800m track race for Bridgend after a successful cross country season, coming in with a fantastic 2.32.7 narrowing being piped by second division athlete Luke Davies of Brecon with 2.32.1. Congratulations to all the following athletes who put in gutsy performances - Zoe Nash, Sian Smith, Rhys Roberts, Rhys Young, Kieron Morgan, Daniel Mayne, James Mayne, Sean Trehar, Dylan Parry, Connor Morgan, Marcus Smith, Joel Davies, Hannah Pachuta, Hannah Langden, Meriel Clode, Katrin Higginson, Isobel Dodd, Olivia Evans, Shaila Bletchly Tellum, Mia Pass, Mali Howell, Rhian Hamm, Amelie Clode, Jasmine Gamble, Nia Clatworthy, Ffion Higginson, Hollie Mollan, Yvette Evans, Chloe Cox, Jack Hughes, Ben Thomas, Maddie Brown & Benji Edwards. Please see attached full results listing.

We would like say a BIG THANK YOU to the small team of Bridgend officials who volunteered on the day, they are Jeff and Lesley Roberts, Katie and Lindy Nash, (these 4 are in their last year of this league), plus Bridgend officials Darren Hamm, Tracey Hughes and Robyn Smith because without these giving up their valuable time on the day our team would end up losing points. This is due to the fact that each club are required to provide a team of field officials (3 or 4 in number) for each fixture plus one track judge or one timekeeper. So if you are a parent reading this report we would like to appeal for help there is the danger that these league meetings being cancelled if there are not sufficient officials to cover the events. We would like to see Jeff, Lesley, Katie, Lindy and all the other officials just covering one event for an hour rather than staying on the event for the whole day so that they too can enjoy the day watching our athletes have fun, competing and making friends. The next league fixture takes place on May 26th @ Cwrt Herbert Track Neath SA10 7DF please add your names to the team sheets ASAP - Team Manager Tracey Hughes

It’s the clubs intension to put on a level one Officiating course to ease the burden on these guys, in the next couple of weeks and we would like to see parents come along support the club and your children’s competitions to make ensure that the future of this league is secured! The course will be a maximum of 2 hours and will take place on a Monday night at the club house and will be free to attend and is a great opportunity to have a general understanding of the events that your children participate and who knows we may have a champion ‘sand raker’ or javelin retriever amongst our Bridgend parents! There will be a notice up in the club house over the next few days or so identifying the date of the course and we invite parent to add their names where possible!
2012 SCHOOL GAMES, OLYMPIC STADIUM 9TH MAY 2012
Zoe Dakin & Isabel Hughes have been training incredibly hard for the 2012 School Games. The final part of their preparation came down to competing in the Glamorgan Valleys Schools Athletics Championships to be assured of a place in the Welsh Schools Final in July. Isabel competed in Aberdare yesterday where she won both the 300m (her preferred event) and the 200m. Unfortunatley Zoe had to travel to Cardiff to compete as the hammer and discus could not be held at Aberdare. Zoe had a season's best of 45m 8cm in the hammer putting her at the top of the UK rankings and also guaranteeing her place in the Glamorgan Valleys Team to defend her 2011 title. Great confidence boost for both girls as they pack "far too much" for their 4 day trip. Don't forget there are revision rooms set aside for those athletes sitting their GCSE's!!
BRIDGEND AC WISHES YOU BOTH THE VERY BEST OF LUCK and hope you have a fantastic experience.

Rhys Roberts on S4C
Rhys Roberts was asked by his school to apply for a TV programme to promote the Olympics and Paralympics. There were over 100 applicants from all sports across Wales. Rhys won the first round from which 12 were chosen to go through into the second round which took place over the weekend in Cardiff. The athletes were scored on each event and at the end of the weekend the 4 with the lowest score were asked to leave the competition. Rhys made the final 8 consisting of 2 teams of 4 who will compete against each other in a variety of different sports, this will be filmed over the next few weeks.

Good luck to Rhys from all at Bridgend AC. :)
